Event Description

STEM Learning In Action - Be a certified STEM Leader for the Central Valley

  • Become an NGSS expert
  • Teacher leader certification in STEM education
  • Key resources for your classroom or program

Session 1: Strategies for implementing NGSS. Learn how to engage students and stimulate interest in STEM with science and engineering practices in and out of the classroom. Learn how to design an interactive workshop in your classroom or after school program.

Build simple to complex projects from recycled materials while learning how to effectively teach and model science and engineering practices as well as integrate the NGSS with the CCSS.

In Session 2 we will continue the work on exploring the dimensions of NGSS through project-oriented lessons. Building on the Tinkering activities and the DIY electromagnet project, we will review the rationale behind the tinkering philosophy and then integrate key ELL strategies into the next demo lesson. You will leave with several new ideas to share with colleagues and staff back at your school site as well.

This course will comprise part of the Leadership In STEM Education certification through the Central Valley Science Project. University credit will be available through Fresno State.
